From March 2017-June 2020, our time & energy were largely spent in language study and relationship building in the community while also serving as church planting interns at Denen Grace Chapel in Kawasaki. This was mainly done through:
Yochien/School Mom Connections
Local Park/Neighborhood Meetups
Running with the local Dads
As these relationships developed, Bible Studies began and other discipleship opportunities.
And then officially starting from July 2020 we have begun to form a local indigenous church. Our first church service was held Saturday evening, July 25th right in our living room. In partnership with the believers at Denen Grace Chapel and other Christian relationships in the community God has led us to, new people have begun to come into our home for organized worship and to sit under the teaching of God's Word.
It was such a joy to worship with our Japanese friends! Here are some photos from the big day. Our focus from July 2020-March 2021 will be "What is the Church?" from Acts 2:42-47. Starting from April 2021 (typically the start of a new year in Japan), we will explore God's grand redemptive narrative walking our friends from Creation-to-Christ.
During these initial stages of church planting work and not yet meeting weekly, we will continue our relationship building efforts, supporting and empowering our Christian brothers and sisters at Denen Grace Chapel as well as work toward fostering a healthy team environment for new missionaries and national believers.
As these ministry efforts develop, we will continue to keep you updated on ways to help and support these efforts in seeing a church planted in Yokohama and God's Glory in Japan!
Thank you for your prayers and support!
